Lightbearer, the debut collection from Erica Photiades, explores the author's identity through music, teaching and her upbringing in Michigan. Her essays and poetry examine and reflect upon the decline and rebirth of the city of Detroit through her family's history, her childhood stories, and many late night tours driving through the city. Her writing offers insight into her love and appreciation for music, her family, and her desire to leave the world a better place through teaching. Lightbearer is a play on the meaning of the author's last name: Bearer of Light. Through her stories and poetry, one can hope to find light in the darkest of places.
